Case of Nina

Before you watch The Case of Nina, be sure to review the background of the case discussed in Part 4 of the lecture.

—Nina – Client (age 33)
    • —Presenting issue:  difficulties in marriage relationship (Scott, 10 years)
    • —Mother of Kelly (6 years old) and Eric (3 years old)
    • —High school diploma
    • —Administrative Assistant at local hospital
    • —Considering returning to school to study nursing
    • —Drug use early in marriage contributed to ongoing financial challenges
    • —Recently revealed she is having an affair with a co-worker (Nick, seeing him for 3 months)
—Emily – Counseling student (age 30)
    • —Master’s-level counseling student in her first internship
    • —Former employment as an accountant
    • —Married (about 9 years), no children
    • This is Emily’s fourth counseling session with Nina.

Assignment:

    • —Watch the counseling session segment
    • —Take notes as if you are the counselor’s supervisor and will be meeting with her shortly.
    • —Focus on observations and points you might want to cover in the supervision. session.  For right now, don’t be concerned with HOW you will cover any or all of your points.
    • —We will refer back to this counseling session and your notes in future modules, including module 2.
    • —Be sure to think like a supervisor educator – focus on the supervisee vs. the client!
